Scope of Work

Global Maritime was appointed by both the underwriters and TP-OTC to provide Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) and consultancy support for Phase 2 of the Sakarya Gas Field development. The scope of the project included drilling eight new wells, installing new subsea production systems, SURF infrastructure, a floating production unit (FPU), and a new dry gas export pipeline to the onshore receiving facilities at Filyos. In addition, two new subsea wells were tied back into the existing Phase 1 production system.

Challenges

The project’s complex geography and geophysical conditions necessitated rigorous de-risking. Key technical hurdles included proximity to the Filyos River mouth and a rugged escarpment, requiring simultaneous nearshore trenching and precise navigation during pipeline installation. Operationally, a diverse international fleet faced language barriers and varied safety standards. These factors, alongside a rapid global pace, compelled the Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) to enforce stringent documentation controls and oversight to ensure safe execution across all project phases.

Outcome – Results and Deliverables

The project reached a major milestone with the incident-free installation of the export pipeline. Given Phase 1’s high claims history, the underwriters and the Client attributed this success to our diligent MWS oversight. We neutralised critical risks through holistic DP surveys of the Castorone, root-cause analyses, and crew competency checks. By reviewing engineering designs, maintaining 100% attendance during operations, and providing targeted surveyor briefings, we effectively de-risked shore pulling, backfilling, and installation activities. This achievement highlights the effective collaboration between the Client, Contractor, and Underwriters in maintaining rigorous risk management throughout the project.
