We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Mark May as Regional Lead – Marine Services, APAC.
In this article, Mark shares insight into his career to date, from an early ambition to work at sea to his new role leading marine services across the APAC region. He discusses the experiences that have shaped his career, the realities of offshore operations, and what continues to drive his passion for the industry.
As Regional Lead, Mark helps our APAC teams deliver high-quality marine services in line with GM standards. His work includes coordinating rig moves, towage, client representation, DP assurance, and supporting teams across the region to make sure every operation runs safely and efficiently.

Mark is a highly experienced Master Mariner with more than 30 years in maritime operations, including over 24 years in the offshore oil and gas sector. He brings extensive management and consulting experience across rig moves, subsea construction, DP operations, and marine warranty surveying.
Having led more than 100 jack‑up rig moves, Mark is a trusted advisor to operators, insurers, and contractors on complex, high‑risk projects. His expertise spans DP assurance, marine surveys, casualty investigations, and offshore construction support, delivering practical, safety‑focused solutions across a wide range of marine environments.
Tell us a bit about your role and what it entails?
As Marine Service Lead – APAC Region, my role is to support and assist the various offices within the APAC region to supply quality marine services to Global Maritime clients. It primarily focuses on delivering marine services such as MODU Rig Movers, Offshore Tow Masters, Client Marine Representatives, DP Services such as FMEA/FMECA, DP Trials and DP Assurance.
What inspired you to pursue a career within our industry?
I wanted to go to sea for as long as I could remember, even as a young child. When I eventually did start my seagoing career, the offshore oil and gas industry is where I gravitated to due to the many diverse and interesting opportunities within the industry.
What standout projects have you worked on, and how have they helped shape your career journey?
A few of the standout offshore projects I have worked on include salvage operations on a 300,000t FSU, the tow out and positioning of a 200,000t CGS, lifting jackets and 20,000t topsides into place offshore. The varied work within the industry keeps things exciting and every job is different!
What’s your favourite thing about being part of the GM Maritime team beyond the day-to-day work?
The people within the company. Everyone is friendly, supportive and very competent within their respective fields. To be able to reach out to so many different skillsets worldwide within the company for advice or help at any time is amazing.
