The AIRBARGE project, an innovative floating logistics solution developed within the WHEEL framework, aims to revolutionize the transport of offshore wind components by enabling direct deployment from inshore assembly facilities to offshore sites—without reliance on traditional port infrastructure.

As the appointed MWS, Global Maritime will provide independent assurance and oversight to ensure the safe and compliant execution of all marine operations associated with the AIRBARGE system. The project will be led and managed by our team based in Spain.

The WHEEL project, funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe programme, is a pioneering initiative led by Esteyco, an independent architectural and engineering consultancy firm headquartered in Madrid. It focuses on the full-scale demonstration of an innovative floating wind technology designed for deep-water deployment. The project aims to advance this technology to a pre-commercial Technology Readiness Level (TRL), while also enabling effective industrialisation strategies, achieving breakthrough cost reductions, and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of offshore wind infrastructure.

This contract award marks a critical step forward in advancing the AIRBARGE solution toward commercial readiness and large-scale demonstration.
