Get to Know GM – A Q&A with Anskey Miranda

Meet Anskey Miranda, Global Maritime’s Innovation and Product Manager, and discover how a career spanning naval architecture, subsea engineering, renewables, and engineering leadership has shaped his approach to innovation and product development.

In this Q&A, Anskey shares insights into the value of GM OpSim, how it supports more informed offshore project decision-making, and the collaborative culture that drives the development of Global Maritime’s solutions.

Tell us a bit about your role and what it entails?

As Innovation and Product Manager, I oversee the development of all our products as well as R&D projects. I get to be involved in all stages of development from technical, commercial, marketing, and anything else that can help bring our amazing products in front of clients and help solve their needs.

How has your career evolved at Global Maritime?

I started here as Renewables Lead in 2022 and then moved on to Engineering Manager for our Canadian Entity. I have been fortunate enough to get involved in different parts of our business over the years including at present, product and innovation.

What inspired you to pursue a career within our industry?

I have been working in the marine and offshore industry now for 20 years. I came into it as a Naval Architect, then moved into subsea engineering, and now with GM, a bit of everything. I have always followed interesting challenges and enjoyed places that encourage innovation.

What is GM OpSim, and what challenges does it solve?

GM OpSim is a discrete event simulation software, and it helps project teams quantify the risks associated with variable parameters. In the offshore world, where this brings most value is understanding the risks and impact of weather on operations.

What makes GM OpSim particularly valuable to clients working across the maritime and offshore industries?

GM OpSim has native weather capabilities and the ability to model any real-world operation though both logic and schedules. This means that anyone working in the offshore world can quantifiably assess questions like, ‘how long will this project take to complete’, ‘if I need to complete this by a certain date, when should I start’, ‘how do I plan my vessel fleet strategy’, and many more questions that help project teams, both technical and commercial make better decisions.

What’s something exciting you’re currently working on?

We are currently in the process of developing a custom software that will help one of the major energy operators during their offshore operations with tug positioning based on weather forecasting. It will also let them forecast the equilibrium heading position of the FPSO. It’s a great example of how we bring our technical expertise and product development to help in real world situations and I am very excited to see it in action.

What’s your favourite thing about being part of the Global Maritime team, beyond the day-to-day work?

The people by far. For such a large company, GM has the feel of a start-up in the best way possible. People, all the way up to the CEO are so approachable and genuinely helpful, and I think that is what makes it an amazing place to work.
