Global Maritime Completes Offshore Wind Transport Feasibility Study

Global Maritime is delighted to announce the completion of a comprehensive feasibility study for an offshore wind developer, identifying safe and efficient methods for transporting large wind turbine foundations from China to Europe.

This study provided the client with vital insight into the associated risks and logistical challenges, helping to shape their business plan, and strengthen confidence as they advance their ambitious project.

As the offshore wind sector continues to advance globally, it faces numerous challenges, including cost pressures, supply chain constraints, regulatory delays, and the complex logistics involved in transport components of this scale.

Working closely with the client, Global Maritime assessed all aspects of the transportation phase, ensuring the project was built on a robust, well‑informed plan to support the developer’s decision‑making, underpinned by proven methodologies and detailed analysis, including:

  • Logistics: Reviewed transport routes, selected suitable vessels, and assessed port facilities to ensure the safe and efficient shipment of foundations from China to multiple sites across Europe.
  • Risk Assessment: Identified potential challenges including weather variability, geopolitical factors, customs requirements and possible delays to support proactive planning and risk mitigation.
  • Technical and Regulatory Checks: Ensured all engineering requirements and applicable regulations were fully addressed, while also considering environmental impacts associated with the transport and installation process.
  • Boosting the Business Case: Provided practical solutions and cost estimates to support the client’s financial planning and investment decisions.
  • Programme Confidence: Delivered clarity on schedules, resource needs and contingency measures, giving the client greater confidence in managing the project successfully.

“This study demonstrates Global Maritime’s continued commitment to supporting the offshore wind sector,” said Jose Gomez, Country Manager of Global Maritime Spain. “With involvement in over 150 wind projects worldwide, we remain a trusted partner throughout the entire project lifecycle. By addressing the technical, logistical and strategic risks, we provided the client with the insights needed to make informed decisions and advance their project objectives.”
