Meet the 2026 Summer Interns at Global Maritime Norway

Tønnes & Trygve

This summer, Trygve and Tønnes joined Global Maritime’s Stavanger office as part of our Summer Internship Programme, gaining hands-on experience across structural engineering and decommissioning projects while completing their Marine Technology studies at NTNU in Trondheim.

As part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of marine engineers, we caught up with them to hear about their experience, the projects they’ve worked on and what they’ve learned during their time at Global Maritime.

Tønnes Rosland – Summer Intern – Marine Operations

First, tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi, my name is Tønnes. I’m 24 years old, originally from Klepp, and about to start my final year studying Marin Teknikk in Trondheim. In my free time, I enjoy fishing, outdoor activities, and both watching and playing football.

Tell us about your experience as a Global Maritime intern, including any highlights and the work you have been doing?

This summer, Trygve and I have each been working on our own projects, with my focus being a decommissioning project.

Gaining experience with both OrcaFlex and Global Maritime’s in-house software, GM OPSIM, has been very exciting, and I have found the learning curve to be steep in a positive way.

I especially appreciated having the opportunity to dive straight into the work and learn through trial and error along the way. Throughout the summer, I have been given the chance to work independently and develop my own solutions to various challenges.

What have you enjoyed most about working with the Global Maritime team?

The level of expertise within the company. There is always someone who can answer your questions or who has encountered a similar challenge in a previous project. Everyone is approachable, and it is easy to ask for input and guidance whenever needed.

Do you have any advice for students considering applying for next year’s Global Maritime Summer internship?

When I applied for the internship, I had very limited knowledge and experience within Global Maritime’s areas of work, but I was eager to learn more. Having the right attitude can take you a long way, especially in a summer internship where the goal is to learn about the industry and get to know the company.

And finally, if you could describe your internship at Global Maritime in three words, what would they be?

Educational, rewarding and engaging.

Trygve Tollefsen Gjerde – Summer Intern – Structural

First, tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi, my name is Trygve, and this summer I have worked in the Structural Department at Global Maritime’s Stavanger office. I study Marine Technology, specialising in Marine Structures, at NTNU in Trondheim, and I am about to start my final year of my master’s degree.

Tell us about your experience as a Global Maritime intern, including any highlights and the work you have been doing?

During the first few weeks, I spent most of my time modelling parts of a semi-submersible in GeniE, which was definitely a challenge, as I had to learn new software while also trying to understand technical drawings. However, the hard work paid off, as I was eventually able to export the model to HydroD, where I could run several dynamic analyses and get some pictures with pretty colours.

That said, my time was not only spent working in GeniE and HydroD. I got the opportunity to join meetings of different sizes, enjoyed many cake breaks, a summer party, quiz nights, and good lunches, which, as a student, is quite nice.

What have you enjoyed most about working with the Global Maritime team?

My favourite part of working at GM has definitely been the people and getting the opportunity to learn a lot from them. (+ the food).

Do you have any advice for students considering applying for next year’s Global Maritime Summer internship?

If I were to give any advice to students considering applying for next year’s summer internship at Global Maritime, I would strongly advise learning to like marzipan cake, as otherwise, you will miss out on most of the office cake 🙂

And finally, if you could describe your internship at Global Maritime in three words, what would they be?

Exiting, educational, and fulfilling.
