Boka Northern Ocean
Boskalis

The DP2 construction support vessel Boka Northern Ocean underwent a hybrid upgrade with the installation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) to improve power management, including blackout prevention, peak shaving, and generator load optimisation.

A Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and proving trials were completed to verify the system’s performance during dynamic positioning (DP) operations and ensure the vessel’s Worst Case Failure Design Intent was maintained.

  • Installation of BESS hybrid system
  • DP FMEA assessment completed
  • Evaluation of Port and Starboard power system connection
  • Proving trials conducted and witnessed
  • Compliance with BV Battery(power) class notation
  • Classification Society approval achieved
